Normal again

I made it through another cycle of Sutent.  I stopped a few days early because Ken and I went to Dallas for a Valentines/birthday surprise party.  It was such a great weekend, and went way too fast.  We stayed in a luxury hotel where they brought chocolate strawberries and wine to our room, and we got to hang out with some really cool people.

I had a CT scan yesterday of my chest, abdomen and pelvis.  I was supposed to have a PET scan this week also to check the size and activity of the tumors, but the insurance company has struck us down once again.  I guess Aetna has now realized that my continuing care is going to cost them some money to keep me alive, so they have now started denying the PET scans.  This, after they tried to cancel me a few months ago, for no reason at all, blaming it on Ken's office manager, then his insurance agent, and anyone else they could think of.  They have already approved 4 or 5 PET scans, the latest one just 2 months ago.  Their excuse is the scan is "experimental."  What does that even mean?  It's a scan, not a clinical trial.  We don't have enough to fight, now we have to fight for medical insurance?  Whatever.  They picked the wrong patient, that's for sure.  They don't know the power I have on my side.  I've got my own in-house counsel just waiting to fight this fight.  I almost feel sorry for the adjuster that is going to hear from him soon, if they keep this up.  Almost.  So, normally, the CT and PET scan would be integrated somehow to give us more information on what the tumors are doing.  I guess we'll have to settle for the CT report for now.

I'm off to my church's women's retreat this weekend at Murrieta Hot Springs, and I'll be back on Sunday.  Take care.

God is love.
