1 week after surgery

I can't believe this, but my surgeon just came in, put in a smaller tracheostomy (the tube in my throat that opens my airway, put a purple cap on it, and now I can talk!  Then he said "you can go home."  I'm in shock.  I was in ICU for 2 days, and the step down ward, DOU, since then.  I thought I still had a few days in the regular hospital, at least.  No PICC line for antibiotics, I can crush them and put them in my feeding tube.  I'll have humidified oxygen and suction at home for when I cough, but it won't be attached to me.  I'll be free to move about the cabin, so to speak.  If I'm really lucky, I might get to go on our vacation next month, who knows?  I haven't seen or spoken to Cody in a week, because he wasn't allowed on the acute care ward, and I wasn't able to talk before.  And I'll be home when Kassy gets home, which will be awesome.  I'm trying not to get my hopes too high, though.  I'll just take it one day at a time, and thank God for letting me live through that day, and ask Him for a little more healing the next.  Ahhhhhhhh (big sigh).

God is love!
